Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton were two of the great comic artists of the silent era. Each one created a on-screen personal identity — a comic persona — that carried them from film to film.

What are the attributes of each persona? Begin with the face.

How does each dress, walk, gesture? hold his body? How does each persona cope with challenging situations? with disappointment, with romance? with conflict? How does each “cope”?

How are the two characters alike? How are they different?

Which one appeals to you more? and Why?

Point to specific moments in The Cure and The General.

Feel free to go to YouTube and look at other clips. Put them in your essay if you want to.
